Shades of Green

Our wonderful week on the canals of the English midlands has come to an end. While there was some physical exertion involved in opening locks, along with often times walking between them, we feel relaxed and thankful for the opportunity to join Helen and Roger for the week. It truly was a holiday within our holiday.

The greatest impression left with me is the greenness of the English countryside. The canal banks are rich with vegetation from rippling grass in gently rolling meadows, to reeds on either bank attempting to meet in the middle, to overhanging avenues of trees blocking out the sunlight, to holly and ivy invading every nook and cranny of the undergrowth. And our constant companions, ducks lined up along the bank like a shooting gallery in a sides
